Zanjan University of Medical Sciences has warned that the use of raw wastewater for irrigation of some farms in the province could increase the risk of outbreaks of cholera and other gastrointestinal diseases.
Mohammadreza Saeini, deputy for health at Zanjan University of Medical Sciences, said, pointing to the continued use of unreliable wastewater and effluents for irrigating some agricultural lands, that this method can provide the conditions for the transmission of gastrointestinal diseases, including cholera, through water, contaminated vegetables, and fruits.
