🔻The world football federation, FIFA, in response to an unprecedented wave of opposition and threats of sanctions from UEFA and CONCACAF, officially announced that it has no intention of backing down from its plans to transfer part of the commercial rights of the World Cup to American private investors. The organization, while rejecting the criticisms, said that the media were responsible for the misinterpretation of this proposal and emphasized: “Nobody is selling football.”

🔹This crisis intensified after UEFA members, in an emergency meeting, agreed to consider sanctioning FIFA competitions, including the World Cup, if this proposal is not fully withdrawn. UEFA, CONCACAF, and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) have also criticized the lack of consultation with the confederations before the proposal was publicly announced.

🔹These stances have increased pressure on Gianni Infantino, the FIFA president. He supports a plan to establish a new entity called FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE); a company under which part of its shares would be transferred to private investors so that more financial resources can be made available to member federations.
