In its latest breaking news report, the Voice of America news network is covering developments in the race to control the U.S. Senate.

The Republicans began election night with a majority of 53 seats against the Democrats’ 47 seats. To take control of the Senate, the Democrats must gain four more seats in total.

In the state of Georgia, Voice of America has also joined other media outlets that have predicted the victory of Jon Ossoff, the incumbent Democratic senator, over Mike Collins, the Republican candidate.

Georgia’s Senate seat is of particular importance for national security and Congress’s oversight of U.S. intelligence activities, military policies, and the United States’ role in the Indo-Pacific region.

This result keeps one Democratic seat and does not change the balance of power in the Senate.
