This year, Venice has earned more than five million euros in revenue by collecting an entry fee for the city. The figure is unprecedented. Venice, in northern Italy, is the only city in the world to have carried out such a plan.

According to Venice city officials, the purpose of the plan was to manage tourism and generate revenue, and at least the second part of it has been successful so far.
