🔸Venezuela’s Foreign Ministry announced that the ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Caracas was summoned on Tuesday, 6 Mordad, in protest against remarks described as “insulting and inappropriate.”

🔸In a statement, the ministry said that an official protest note regarding the remarks made against institutions and officials of Venezuela was delivered to the Iranian ambassador.

🔸Venezuelan officials have not specified which remarks they refer to, but videos released on social media show that Abbas Araqchi, Iran’s foreign minister, had recently said in connection with negotiations with the United States that Iran is “not Venezuela.”

🔸Tensions between Caracas and Tehran could be an important change in relations between the two oil-rich countries, which have been close political allies and commercial partners since Hugo Chávez came to power in 1999.

🔸In 2020, at the height of Venezuela’s economic crisis, Iran sent one and a half million barrels of gasoline to the country, and in 2025 it also provided more than two million polio and hepatitis vaccines to Caracas.
