Mike Waltz, the United States representative to the United Nations, in his speech at the UN General Assembly, addressed corruption in the Cuban government and, among other issues, raised matters such as “luxury watches” and the private island “Cayo Piedra.” The remarks were met with a sharp reaction from the Cuban delegation. Members of the Cuban delegation protested by banging on the table and raising a point of order. Rodrigues, a member of the delegation, went up to the podium, accusing Waltz of “lying.” In the wake of these reactions, Khalilur Rahman, the president of the General Assembly, suspended the session for a short period.
