US envoy condemns drone attack on office of Kurdistan Regional Government prime minister
🔸The United States’ special envoy in Iraq and Syria, with a “strong” condemnation of the drone attack on the office of Masrour Barzani, the prime minister of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq in Erbil, said it was “an infringement against a trusted Kurdish partner and a direct threat to regional stability,” and called it unacceptable.
🔸In a message he posted on the social media platform X, Tom Barrack also expressed his full support for the leadership of Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaydi “in restoring Iraqi sovereignty and ensuring that all weapons and security forces remain under the control of the state.”
🔸Earlier, the Counterterrorism Department of Iraq’s Kurdistan Region had announced that two drones launched from inside Iranian territory on the evening of Sunday, 25 Mordad, targeted Masrour Barzani’s office, the prime minister of Iraqi Kurdistan, as well as the residence of the head of intelligence of this autonomous region. According to officials, the attack caused no casualties.
🔸In a post on X, Masrour Barzani condemned “these brazen and unacceptable aggressions” and wrote that “these actions amount to a dangerous escalation of tensions and a direct threat to the security and stability of the region, and such attacks will not prevent us from continuing to carry out our duties and protect our citizens.”
