🔶 UN Security Council condemns Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia

On Saturday, 28 Shahrivar (19 September), the UN Security Council issued a statement strongly condemning Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and expressed solidarity with Riyadh.

In the statement, signed by all 15 members of the Security Council, emphasis was placed on Saudi Arabia’s right to defend itself, and the Iran-backed Houthis were asked to immediately end any escalation of military clashes.

Last week, the Houthis, in a rapid operation, seized areas on Yemen’s western coasts and gained access to the strategic Bab al-Mandab strait.

The UN Security Council also condemned attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab, and called for cooperation to prevent the Houthis from obtaining weapons and military equipment.

The Council also strongly condemned the escalation of fighting in Yemen, taking into account reports about people being killed and wounded and the displacement of more than 125,000 people.
