The UK Maritime Trade Operations Organization announced that it has received a report about an incident 21 nautical miles northeast of Khasab, Oman. Based on a warning published on Saturday, the captain of an oil tanker reported seeing a severe impact with something falling into the water and an explosion near the vessel.

The incident, reported on Friday evening, was attributed to the ship’s commander as its source.

Earlier, the same organization had also reported an attack 11 nautical miles northeast of Lima in Oman. In that case, an unidentified projectile struck an oil tanker, the engine room was damaged, and the vessel lost control.

Both locations are in the Musandam Peninsula of Oman and at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz.

On Friday, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy said in a statement that it had targeted and stopped two oil tankers that had attempted to pass through the Strait of Hormuz along an “unannounced” route and under the air escort of U.S. forces.
