Turkey’s foreign minister said that regional countries that share a common outlook for peace can join the Makkah defense alliance, made up of Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.
Hakan Fidan listed strengthening regional peace and stability, supporting development and prosperity, expanding the institutional framework of foreign relations, and participating in the transformation of the global order as priorities of Türkiye’s foreign policy, and said the Makkah alliance sits at the intersection of these priorities.
Anadolu Agency published these remarks, attributed to Fidan’s note, in its November issue of the agency’s monthly magazine.
According to him, Türkiye signed the joint defense agreement of Makkah due to its shared perspective with Saudi Arabia and Pakistan on finding regional solutions to regional problems. He described the alliance’s goal as strengthening stability by increasing deterrence.
