🔶 German Defense Minister: There is no need to make conscription mandatory
Boris Pistorius, Germany’s Federal Minister of Defense, said he is confident that the German armed forces will be able to meet their need for personnel in the future without returning to mandatory conscription.
In an interview with newspapers of the Funke media group, he pointed out that “the measures planned in the new law on modernization of military service are bearing fruit,” adding that “the Bundeswehr has reached the highest number of its personnel in 13 years, with around 190,000 uniformed men and women.”
In another part of his remarks, Pistorius said: “If this trend continues, we will not face any problem in increasing the number of military personnel.”
He also said that there will no longer be “any need to discuss any form of conscription, regardless of how it is implemented.”
