Turkey’s foreign minister, after the G20 foreign ministers meeting in Atlanta, said that the nearly five-year war between Russia and Ukraine has inflicted major wounds on the global economy, and that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz has multiplied this effect by several times to a much higher level, and that it must end faster.

Hakan Fidan added that the disagreement between the United States and the Islamic Republic that led to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz should be resolved as soon as possible so that commercial routes can be reopened, and that Russia and Ukraine also must reach an agreement with great sacrifice.

He said to Anadolu Agency and the TRT network that European countries for a long time tried to conceal the economic and social costs of the Russia-Ukraine war, but that these costs are now putting pressure on political power in European capitals.

He noted reports estimating the energy cost of this war for Europe at nearly 100 billion euros, and said the overall bill is much larger.
