Trump rejects link between CIA chief’s trip to Moscow and NATO and Iran

🔸Donald Trump, the U.S. president, says that “something” from the unannounced trip of John Ratcliffe, head of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), to Moscow may have resulted from it.

🔸The Kremlin spokesperson also said on Wednesday, the fourth of Shahrivar, that Ratcliffe had been in contact during this trip with officials of Russian intelligence services, but he did not meet with the Russian president.

🔸On Wednesday, Trump, in an interview with the Glen Beck radio program, did not provide details about the subject of Ratcliffe’s talks, but described his trip as “somewhat routine” and said: “Something could come out of it. We are working very hard to end that war.”

🔸He also said: “We want the war in Ukraine to end.”

🔸Ratcliffe traveled to Moscow on Tuesday, the third of Shahrivar, on an unannounced trip. Several U.S. officials on the same day, in interviews with Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, confirmed the trip, but at the time the purpose of the trip, the content of the negotiations, and the Russian officials he spoke with were not announced.

🔸Now, American media have published fresh details about the mission of the CIA chief.

🔸CBS News, citing several people with knowledge of the talks, reported that the aim of Ratcliffe’s trip was to warn Russia about any attack on NATO member countries.

🔸According to these sources, he also raised the issue of Iran and warned that if the Strait of Hormuz is not opened to shipping, additional sanctions will be imposed. The CIA declined to comment on the reasons for this trip.
