🔻Trump again calls the Strait of Hormuz “U.S. territory”; this time by publishing a map

Donald Trump, the U.S. president, has posted an image of a map of the Strait of Hormuz on his account on the “Truth Social” network, on which the words “New U.S. territory” are written.

In the image Mr. Trump shared, the phrase “New U.S. territory” can be seen at the top of the map, and the Strait of Hormuz is also highlighted with a marked circle.

The post follows Mr. Trump’s recent statements about the Strait of Hormuz. He had previously said at an election rally: “I now declare the Strait of Hormuz as U.S. territory.”

The latest statements and post by the U.S. president come as the Strait of Hormuz remains one of the main focal points of tension between the United States and Iran, and the passage of oil tankers and commercial ships through this waterway has been severely restricted.

The Strait of Hormuz is an international waterway located between Iran and Oman on opposite sides, and a significant portion of the region’s oil and gas exports passes through it.
