The Yemeni government, recognized by the international community and supported by Saudi Arabia, announced that it has recaptured areas under Houthi control in Taiz Governorate.

According to Al Jazeera, Yemeni government forces said that after a counteroffensive, they regained the area of San‘amat and advanced in the areas of Al Shaq‘ab and Al Sarrari in Taiz Governorate.

The report says these developments took place in parallel with scattered clashes at the western pass of the province.

It is reported that as a result of Houthi shelling, one civilian was killed and five people were injured.

Houthi forces have been trying to besiege the city of Taiz, one of the main bases of the government—a city that the United Nations has warned has food reserves for its residents running out.

The government based in Taiz accuses the Houthis of preventing the entry of water tankers.

The government also condemned the major damage done to the highway connecting the city of Taiz to Aden, Yemen’s temporary capital, and said that the lives of civilians are “at risk.”
