The Wall Street Journal reported that, in response to the Islamic Republic’s missile attack on its forces in Jordan, the United States carried out attacks against the positions of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in the early hours of Thursday.

According to the newspaper, despite these attacks being broader than previous U.S. operations, an American official said this action does not mean a return to large-scale military operations. Hopes for achieving an immediate diplomatic breakthrough also dimmed with these attacks.

The U.S. Army described these attacks as a “decisive response” to the Islamic Republic’s attack on Tuesday. The attacks were carried out a few hours after Donald Trump, the U.S. president, promised to respond to the attack.
