The Democrats managed to win six seats belonging to Republicans. Some of these victories were achieved in states that are traditionally considered strongholds for Republicans; including Texas and South Carolina.

Although Republicans may still succeed in capturing seats in some states that traditionally vote for Democrats, but based on current forecasts, the Democrats have obtained enough of the important seats to take control of the U.S. Senate.
