The Telegraph reported that hackers affiliated with the Islamic Republic disrupted a British power plant for four days last month in a cyberattack. This is likely the first time that hackers linked to the Iranian government have managed to shut down such facilities in the UK. British officials avoided naming their power plant for security reasons, but it is said that the facility was out of operation for four days and staff were trying to restart it. It is said that the plant was relatively small and that the disruption had no impact on the broader UK power grid or the country’s energy production levels. The incident took place alongside a series of cyberattacks on US water infrastructure last month. The cyberattacks affected 12 states and raised concerns at the White House.
