🔻The Pentagon fired the editor-in-chief and publisher of the U.S. Armed Forces newspaper
The Pentagon has fired the editor-in-chief and publisher of the newspaper “Stars and Stripes,” which covers news from the U.S. armed forces.
Eric Slavina, the editor of this newspaper, told CBS that after discussing his differences with the U.S. Department of Defense and the Pentagon’s efforts to interfere in the newspaper’s coverage, he was removed for “insubordination.”
Max Ledder, the publisher of “Stars and Stripes,” who had announced his retirement just a few days ago, has also been removed. One of the paper’s reporters also said that he was fired for the same reason.
This action takes place a few days after the publication of a report about the difficult conditions faced by the crew of the aircraft carrier “Abraham Lincoln”; a report that has once again increased criticism of America’s war against Iran.
“Stars and Stripes” receives part of its funding from the U.S. Department of Defense, but it has long emphasized the independence of its editorial staff. Since taking office, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegset has repeatedly criticized media outlets and efforts have been made to change the direction of this newspaper’s coverage.
