The foreign minister of the Islamic Republic said his country is «completely prepared» to resume war with the United States, but it has not yet set diplomacy aside.
Abbas Araghchi said in an interview with NBC on Sunday, about a Wall Street Journal report on the possibility of renewed bombing after the U.S. midterm elections: «We are completely ready for war to be resumed, and I repeat, we will stand firm in the face of any new aggression, even if it leads to an apocalyptic war.»
He added: «At the same time, we are ready for diplomacy. The choice is with President Trump.»
Araghchi later wrote on the X platform: «I and Mr. Pezeshkian have not come to New York to sell war. We have come to build peace. However, Iran will remain steadfast in the face of any aggression, even if it leads to an apocalyptic war. At the same time, we are ready for real diplomacy.»
Araghchi said that despite Donald Trump’s public statements, the rejection of the proposal has not yet been officially conveyed to the Islamic Republic through mediators.
