The American newspaper The New York Times reported on Sunday that in recent days employees of government and private sectors in Iran, including nurses and teachers, have announced on social media that they have quit their jobs because, they say, their wages can no longer cover their lives. Domestic media in Iran have also reported on protests by retired workers in government jobs in recent weeks. The retirees said that the government has not paid their retirement benefits in full. In recent days, and as the Islamic Republic’s rial fell further, the U.S. dollar at one point also surpassed 270,000 tomans.
