🔻 «Survival of Iran» and the «Treaty of Turkmenchay»; What supporters and opponents of «tactical retreat» are saying?

🔻 With rising tensions between Iran and the United States, concerns about the possibility of another war have increased. In such circumstances, differences of opinion among figures in the Islamic Republic have become more apparent: one group wants negotiations, compromise, or a «tactical retreat» to prevent war, while another group views any retreat as surrender to the United States and emphasizes continuing resistance.

In Iran, the fear of a new war has led a number of political forces—moderates and reformists—to express their opposition to another war more explicitly than before.

Hussein Marashi, Secretary-General of the Executives of Construction Party (Hezbollah-e Kargarzan-e Sazandegi), recently issued a warning to the president, the speaker of parliament, the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, and the commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, saying that in order to preserve Iran and prevent the occurrence of a possible third war, «they absolutely have no right to take any risk. Any political and military measure and any tactical retreat that is necessary must be carried out so that Iran is preserved.»

In contrast, some hardline conservative figures and media outlets such as the Kayhan newspaper accuse those who call for negotiations and compromise with the United States of trying to end the war «at any cost,» and call them «U.S. envoys» inside Iran. Some of these critics have also called for the prosecution of those who speak of «honorable peace.»
