South Korea and the United States are reducing the duration of their annual joint drills from 11 days to five days and limiting part of the field exercises.

The two sides announced this on Wednesday, following an order by Donald Trump, the U.S. president, to significantly reduce the participation of this country.

Based on a statement by the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff and a Pentagon official, the “Freedom Shield” drill, which began on 26 Mordad, will now continue until 30 Mordad; instead of 5 Shahrivar, which had been its original end date.

An Gyu-bak, South Korea’s defense minister, said the two countries are canceling the second phase of the drills.
