Ukraine’s anti-corruption bodies announced on Wednesday that they are carrying out operations to uncover a “criminal organization” that is run by the current and former lawmakers who manage it, and senior officials of the Presidential Office who are also involved.
These bodies did not provide details of the investigations, but said more information will be released soon.
The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office are the two main anti-corruption bodies in this country.
In July last year, Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelensky revoked the independence of these two institutions. The decision sparked widespread protests at home and a strong international reaction, and he signed a law 10 days later that restored their independence.
