Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, said at the United Nations General Assembly that the current crisis is the result of years of postponing crisis management through temporary solutions and unrealistic policies, and he emphasized that differences must be resolved through dialogue and negotiations.

He said the Gulf crisis can be resolved through diplomatic solutions, by reopening the Strait of Hormuz to shipping and returning to negotiations, to prevent the outbreak of war and pave the way for achieving a lasting solution to ensure the security and stability of the entire region, including Iran.

The Emir of Qatar added that this situation has made it possible to close the waterway through which nearly one-quarter of the world’s energy trade is conducted, turning vital arteries of the global economy into tools for pressure and bargaining.

He said people around the world, despite being far from the factors behind this conflict, are paying its costs, including through higher prices of food and medicine.

The Emir of Qatar also called for the establishment of a regional system for collective security that respects the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of countries, promotes peaceful settlement of disputes, and prevents interference in the internal affairs of countries. https://
