Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has met with his Japanese counterpart Toshimitsu Motegi on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Atlanta.

The two top diplomats last held substantive in-person negotiations on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York in September 2021. Today’s meeting thus marks their first full-fledged talks in five years.
