🔸 Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, on Tuesday, September 31, said that, in his view, Donald Trump, the President of the United States, is prepared to meet with Masoud Pezeshkian, his Iranian counterpart, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, but that no plans have yet been made for such a meeting.

🔸 Rubio, in an interview with Fox News, said: “I think what you’ll see from the first term of this president and what will continue is that he’s willing to sit down with anyone and have conversations and meetings.”

🔸 Donald Trump himself also announced two days earlier that he was prepared to meet with Pezeshkian in New York, and at the same time, regarding Iran, he said: “I’m in a decision-making mode, and in the not-too-distant future very big things will happen.”

🔸 The U.S. foreign minister, regarding a possible meeting and negotiations between Trump and Pezeshkian, said: “Whether such a meeting would produce constructive results or not is more difficult, because the ultimate decision-maker in Iran is the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, and the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic is a hardline Shiite cleric.”

🔸 Rubio continued: “We should remember that when we talk, we’re not only talking about politicians; we’re talking about people whose decisions are influenced by their theological beliefs.”

🔸 The U.S. Secretary of State also, in an interview with NBC about a possible meeting between the presidents of the United States and Iran, said: “We are prepared for something like this. I don’t think anything has been planned at this stage, but we certainly are prepared for such a meeting, especially if its outlook leads to a positive result and ultimately to the realization of the main goal of this matter.”

🔸 He added: “And that goal is for Iran to never be able to obtain nuclear weapons. They can’t simply have such weapons.”

🔸 At the same time, Hossein Mohabi, the spokesperson for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, in an interview with the Islamic Republic News Agency, IRNA, welcomed the possibility of talks with the United States and said: “If our national interests are that alongside war we also have negotiations, then we must negotiate.”

🔸 He added that the readiness of the armed forces of the Islamic Republic for war does not mean a “denial of negotiations.”
