🔻Reuters: Trump administration is considering easing sanctions on shadow fleet ships

🔻Reuters says the Trump administration is reviewing easing sanctions on so-called “shadow fleet” oil tankers that carry oil and petroleum products from sanctioned countries such as Russia and Iran.

According to the report, a U.S. official whose name was not provided said the aim is to reduce the sea shipping rate, which has reached an unprecedented level worldwide. The official told Reuters the administration is considering whether oil that is not subject to sanctions could be transported with ships that are under sanctions.

According to the official, the goal for the U.S. is to move a greater volume of refined products and crude oil out of the Persian Gulf.

The U.S. president temporarily lifted sanctions on Russian diesel a few days ago, which was met with a wave of criticism from Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, European countries, and some of President Trump’s Republican colleagues in the U.S. Senate.

According to the Energy Aspects research group, Chris Wright, the U.S. energy minister, in a video he sent to the Global Petroleum Congress in Riyadh, said that the U.S. administration is discussing reducing sanctions on the shadow fleet.

Portions of Chris Wright’s remarks have been shared on social media, but Reuters said it was unable to obtain the full video or its text. In a report, Reuters said that the U.S. Department of Energy stated that this content is currently not available.

The Global Petroleum Congress ends today, Thursday, in Saudi Arabia, while, due to Houthi attacks, prominent figures from the global oil and energy sector did not attend and, according to Reuters, the U.S. energy minister also sent a video message.
