Qatar’s gas production has been cut in half over the first eight months of this year due to Islamic Republic interference in the Strait of Hormuz and attacks on the country’s gas liquefaction facilities.
The Al Taqa outlet, in a report, says that Qatar’s natural gas production in the first eight months of 2026 fell 51% compared with the same period of the previous year, from 142 billion cubic meters to 70 billion cubic meters.
Qatar’s gas production fell sharply after the start of the Iran war in March, and in August, despite a month-on-month increase of 4.6%, reached 7.72 billion cubic meters, which was 58% less than the corresponding month in 2025.
Qatar has a nearly 20% share of global liquefied gas consumption, and all of Qatar’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) production is shipped from the Strait of Hormuz to global markets.
