In a statement marking the anniversary of Ruhollah Khomeini’s «jihad fatwa» on 28 Mordad 1358, the Political Alliance of Iranian Kurdistan Forces described the move as an effort at «systematic revenge» against the people of Kurdistan for opposing the Islamic Republic in the 1358 referendum.

Comprising six Iranian Kurdish parties, the alliance said that invoking the concept of «jihad» against citizens of Kurdistan lent legitimacy to the violence of the Islamic Republic’s armed forces and led to the widespread attacks by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on Kurdish cities, including Paveh, Sanandaj, Marivan, Saqqez, and Mahabad. The statement also referred to the mass executions carried out by Sadegh Khalkhali, the expansion of attacks on Kurdish villages, and the killing of many citizens and opponents of the Islamic Republic.

The Political Alliance of Iranian Kurdistan Forces emphasized that the people of Kurdistan resisted these attacks and considered the event to be one of the turning points in the suppression of Kurds after the 1357 revolution. The alliance also stressed the need for solidarity among democracy-seeking forces, the continuation of civil and political struggle, and pursuing justice for the victims.
