🔸 The NASA-owned “Nancy Grace Roman” space telescope was launched into space on Sunday, 8 Shahrivar 1405, in collaboration with SpaceX, using a Falcon Heavy rocket from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

🔸 The project, which has been designed with an investment of about four billion dollars, aims to study the nature of dark matter and dark energy, test gravity on cosmic scales, and search for planets outside the solar system.

🔸 Roman is moving toward the “Lagrange 2” point at a distance of about 1.6 million kilometers from Earth in order to be placed into orbit around it. The telescope’s main mission is five years, but, according to NASA, it may also have enough fuel to operate for an additional five years.

🔸 Roman’s field of view in each image is about 100 times that of Hubble, enabling it to rapidly observe large portions of the sky. As part of its primary observing program, over more than a year, the telescope is expected to examine more than two billion galaxies and produce the most comprehensive three-dimensional map of the universe to date.

🔸 Scientists hope that data from this mission will help improve understanding of dark matter and dark energy; two mysterious components of the cosmos whose nature is still unknown.
