Mourad Vaisi, senior analyst at Iran International, said: “Islamic Republic officials talk about resilience, but what they mean is not the resilience of the people; rather, it is the longevity of the government and preventing it from collapsing—even if an Iranian citizen is crushed by pressure from rising prices and economic hardships. The question is: in this definition of resilience, in which people are expected to tolerate high costs, inability to buy meat and housing, rising utility bills, and increases in gasoline prices, where is the Iranian person and citizen?”
