The Ministry of Interior said it has removed “legal and religious obstacles” to women riding motorcycles.

🔸The spokesperson of the Ministry of Interior of the Islamic Republic said on Tuesday that the ministry has a “positive view” regarding issuing motorcycle riding licenses for women in the country and stated that the obstacles to this action have been removed.

🔸Ali Zeinyvand, on the sidelines of a press conference, told reporters: “The Ministry of Interior has a positive view in this regard because the legal obstacles have been removed, and the relevant religious rulings have also been inquired about.”

🔸According to him, previously there were “sensitivities” about women riding motorcycles, but in the current situation “there is no religious obstacle and no legal obstacle.”

🔸He reported that Iskandar Momeni, Minister of Interior, has been pursuing the issue of issuing licenses for women to ride motorcycles.

🔸For decades, the Islamic Republic did not issue motorcycle driving licenses for women, but after the number of women riding motorcycles in opposition to this rule increased, the deputy for parliamentary affairs of the presidential administration in September of last year said it had sent a bill to the parliament to change the laws related to motorcycle driving.

🔸This comes while, in recent months, videos of groups of girls riding motorcycles in the streets of Tehran have drawn attention on social media.

🔸However, in the current situation, not having a license deprives women of insurance and legal protections.
