🔻Maryam Mahtasabi from the U.S. immigration detention center: We’ve been trapped in an “unbearable nightmare” for more than 120 days

Maryam Mahtasabi, a university professor and Iranian citizen residing in the United States, wrote in a letter from the detention center of the country’s immigration agency that she and her husband, along with their teenage son, have been detained for more than 120 days and that their lives have turned into an “unbearable nightmare.”

Ms. Mahtasabi says her family’s detention is because her husband, Isa Hashemi, is the son of Masoumeh Ebtakar.

Ms. Ebtakar was among the media figures and spokespersons of the student followers of the line of Imam during the 1958 occupation of the U.S. embassy in Tehran, and, due to her command of the English language, was considered one of the key figures of that group.

The U.S. government has also introduced Isa Hashemi as Masoumeh Ebtakar’s son and said that the status of his permanent residence, as well as that of his wife, Maryam Mahtasabi, and their child, has been revoked due to what it calls “an association with the Iranian regime.” The family has challenged this decision in court.

Ms. Mahtasabi and her teenage son have spent most of their detention period in a facility in Texas, while Isa Hashemi is being held in another detention center in the southern part of the same state. Continue from:
