🔻Venezuela and Israel agreed to restore their consular relations after nearly two decades. The two countries said in a joint statement that Jews in Venezuela played an important role as a bridge between the two countries.

This is a striking change in the two countries’ relations after the U.S. Army, in a swift operation, transferred Nicolás Maduro, the president, from the presidential palace to a prison in New York. Previously, Venezuela was an ally of Iran.

Delcy Rodríguez, the vice president who replaced Mr. Maduro, has since been in charge of running the country under pressure from Donald Trump to meet the United States’ demands.

After the recent earthquakes that claimed the lives of more than six thousand, Israel sent humanitarian aid to Venezuela.

Hugo Chávez, the then-president, expelled the country’s ambassador in 2009—almost three weeks after Israel’s attack on Gaza—and cut diplomatic ties between the two countries.
