🔸 Leipzig Airport apparently avoided a serious attack

According to a media report, a drone discovered during an attempt that was believed to be an attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport intentionally flew toward a Ukrainian cargo aircraft and struck its wing.

On Wednesday, August 5, German media reported the discovery of a drone at this airport near an Antonov cargo transport aircraft made by Ukraine.

Now the German newsweekly “Die Zeit” writes, relying on footage from CCTV cameras, that this unmanned aircraft was equipped with the explosive material Semtex but did not detonate and then fell to the ground.

It has been said that traces and marks found on the wing of the Antonov aircraft at this airport also confirm the incident. In addition, it has been established that the incident occurred earlier, at 19:30.

It is not yet clear why this explosive package failed to go off. The explosive material was not found on the drone itself, but at some distance from it; therefore, it is possible that it became detached during the impact.

Earlier, it was reported that, in the early hours of Wednesday, the drone had been discovered near a Ukrainian transport aircraft and that one of the airport staff knocked it down with a kick.
