The “Defenders of Free Flow of Information” organization said that Iranian journalists and media are experiencing an unprecedented period of security pressures, judicial برخوردس, and targeted disruption of professional activity, and described this situation as “military-like preparations against the free flow of information.”
The organization said that only in 2025, at least 225 journalists or media outlets faced judicial or security-related actions. It added that 25 journalists or media editors-in-chief were collectively sentenced to more than 30 years in prison and 293 million tomans in fines. At least 148 new court cases were opened against journalists and media, and eight media outlets were shut down.
