Lebanon’s president, after recent Israeli attacks on Nabatieh, went to the south of this country

🔸 Lebanon’s president on Saturday, 21 Shahrivar, in his first trip to the south of the country since the start of the war, emphasized the withdrawal of Israeli forces and the reconstruction of the damaged areas.

🔸 The visit by Joseph Aoun took place one day after a senior U.S. official announced that a new round of negotiations between Lebanon and Israel, mediated by the United States and scheduled for next week, had been postponed to October.

🔸 Mr. Aoun went to the city of Nabatieh without prior announcement, along with Rudolph Hekal, the commander of the Lebanese army. The area has once again been the scene of extensive Israeli attacks in recent days.

🔸 On Thursday, after Israeli forces seized positions of Hezbollah on the strategic height of “Ali al-Taher,” a few kilometers from Nabatieh, they blew up the group’s underground fortifications supported by the Iranian government.

🔸 In Israel’s attacks on this area over the past several days, at least 29 people have been killed, 12 of whom were members of a single family.

🔸 The Lebanese army also warned on Wednesday that Israel’s actions would endanger the implementation of the framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel that was reached with U.S. mediation.

🔸 Under this agreement, Hezbollah must be disarmed, Israeli forces must gradually withdraw from southern Lebanon, and the Lebanese army will be deployed in the evacuated areas. Implementation of this plan is expected to begin first in several pilot regions.

🔸 Fighting between Israel and Hezbollah since late June, after a basic agreement between Israel and Lebanon and an understanding between the United States and Iran, had decreased for a period, but in recent days the Israeli army has intensified its attacks on southern Lebanon, especially the Nabatieh area.
