🔻Kazuyoshi Miura, the football legend of Japan, at 59 years old once again had his name entered in the record book and became the oldest goalscorer in the history of Japan’s Emperor’s Cup.
🔹Miura, who is currently in his 42nd season of professional football, scored both of his goals from the penalty spot in the first round of these competitions, in Fuku shima United’s 7-0 victory over Oyama Soccer Club. With this double, he broke the previous record of Shinji Ono; the former Japan national team midfielder had scored in the Emperor’s Cup at the age of 41.
🔹Miura, who had also scored in last month’s qualifying stage for this cup, with his goals against Oyama recorded his first double since November 2005. Speaking about the secret behind his readiness, he said: “You never know when it will be your turn. That’s why I always practice these shots, and I’m happy that the practice paid off.”
🔹Born in February 1967 in Shizuoka, Miura went to Brazil as a teenager to continue playing football, and in 1986, joined Santos and entered professional football. After several years playing in Brazil, he returned to Japan in 1990 and, with Verdi Kawasaki, became one of the stars of football in this country.
🔹This former striker has also played for Genoa in Italy and Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia, and since 2005 he has been a member of Yokohama FC; though in these years, he has played on loan for teams in Australia, Portugal, and Japan. Miura also scored 55 goals in 89 matches for the Japan national team, and his record includes participation in the 2012 Futsal World Cup as well.
