José Ramos-Horta, President of Timor-Leste, criticized the Islamic Republic of Iran’s regional policies at the United Nations General Assembly and said: “We are aware of the insane approach of Iran’s leaders in their quest for regional supremacy. By fueling religious extremism in neighboring countries, they fan the flames to destabilize wealthy and stable monarchies.”

He added: “Iranian leaders have launched unjustified attacks against neighboring countries and destroyed their civilian industries and infrastructure. Their justification for these attacks is that these countries host American bases.”

The President of Timor-Leste continued, warning about the expansion of wars by referring to the importance of vital waterways for trade, and said: “Can we change course? Can we stop the inevitable slide toward wider wars?”

Ramos addressed Trump, saying: “Be bold, be unpredictable, and be far-sighted. Invite all nuclear powers, all major conventional military powers, and the related industries—without exception—to a meeting in an appropriate place.”
