Jina Romero, the UN Special Rapporteur on the freedom of peaceful assembly and association, thanked for the global solidarity with her 24-hour hunger strike, which she carried out in support of the campaign “Tuesdays No to Executions.”

On the X social network, she wrote, referring to receiving thousands of supportive messages: “This solidarity has deeply moved me, and I am very grateful to everyone who joined this effort around the world.”

Romero wrote: “I have never experienced such a powerful feeling of solidarity and collective strength. I am not a religious person, I don’t even have religious beliefs, but I experienced a very powerful feeling; a heavy one, yet at the same time beautiful.”

She expressed hope: “We will see a day when the death penalty no longer exists, and especially, that it will never be used against people who are simply exercising their freedoms and rights, including the right to peaceful protest.”
