The election on Tuesday in Israel, held with a turnout of 77% of the country’s people, has now entered the stage of counting votes and determining results.

No party has yet won an absolute majority of seats in the Israeli parliament on its own; for this reason, governments have always been formed through coalitions of parties.

After the votes are counted, the President of Israel consults with leaders of the parties and then asks the person who, in his view, has the best chance of forming a government to form a coalition.

This person has 28 days to form a government and, if necessary, can also receive an additional 14 days. If negotiations do not reach a result during this period, the President can ask another candidate to try to form a government.

After the 2022 election, the Likud party led by Benjamin Netanyahu became the largest party, winning 32 seats out of a total of 120 seats in the Knesset. Netanyahu then formed a coalition with several far-right parties and, together with his allies, secured a majority of 64 seats.
