🔶 Iran’s retaliatory move: a Swedish diplomat expelled

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran announced that, in a retaliatory response to a similar action by Sweden from the previous day, it has asked a Swedish diplomat to leave Iranian territory.

On Wednesday, September 25, Sweden’s government reported the expulsion of a staff member of the embassy of that country, coinciding with the summoning of Iran’s ambassador.

The Swedish government linked the expulsion of the Iranian embassy staff member to activities “inconsistent with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.”

Tehran described the Swedish side’s action as “unjustifiable.”

Earlier, Swedish security officials and the Minister of Justice had said there were reports and security information indicating “Iran’s use of criminal groups and criminal gangs in Sweden to target opponents of the Iranian government, as well as centers and targets related to the Jewish and Israeli community” on Swedish soil.

Over the past two years, Swedish intelligence services have attributed several incidents (including shootings and plans for a bomb plot around the Israeli embassy in Stockholm, as well as the involvement of military technology companies) to Iran-linked proxy networks.
