🔶 Afghan migrants forced to leave Iran due to the economic crisis

Reuters, in a detailed report, has looked into the situation of Afghan migrants who, due to the economic crisis caused by the war in Iran, have no choice but to return to Afghanistan—a country that, given the Taliban government, faces severe restrictions.

In particular, women and girls suffer from pressures and discriminatory policies of the Taliban and endure many deprivations.

Reuters prepared and published this report through its own correspondent, who spoke with migrants in border areas who were forced to leave Iran for economic reasons as well as because they were unemployed.

As written by Reuters, the price of consumer goods in Iran has risen by nearly 90% compared with the previous year, and the price of foodstuffs has even increased by about 130%—an increase that, according to the report, is among other things caused by the intensification of sanctions and the U.S. naval blockade.

Investigations by the International Organization for Migration indicate that the average income of Afghans who have just returned from Iran has fallen by nearly one-third compared with before the crisis. Only 29% of them have savings.
