Iran’s Customs Administration has announced import quotas of three million tons of wheat and one and a half million tons of barley from Eurasian countries with a zero tariff.

Under this quota allocation, in the current year, about 75% of the three million tons of imported wheat will be sourced from Russia, 23% from Kazakhstan, and the remainder from Belarus.

Since the start of the war, the Islamic Republic has not published any report on the status of wheat imports. However, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has predicted that Iran’s wheat production this year will reach 13.7 million tons and its imports will reach three million tons.

For barley as well, it is expected that Iran’s domestic production will be about 3.2 million tons and its imports of this product will be 2.5 million tons.

Overall, the FAO estimate indicates that Iran will need to import 17.8 million tons of all types of grains this year; a figure equivalent to 46% of the country’s total domestic grain consumption.

Corn, with a share of more than 60%, makes up the largest portion of Iran’s grain imports.
