🔸 In response to attacks by Saudi Arabia and the United States, Muqtada al-Sadr, by calling the Popular Mobilization Forces militias “rogue,” asked these Iran-backed groups not to give “a pretext” to the Gulf Arab countries to target Iraq.

🔸 The leader of the Sadr movement in Iraq, in a statement published on Wednesday, the seventh of Mordad, also asked the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps not to target Iraqi soil.

🔸 Muqtada al-Sadr is an influential Shiite figure and one of Iraq’s most important political players. He rose to prominence after the U.S. attack on this country in 2003, with the formation of “Jaysh al-Mahdi,” and his supporters once held a majority in parliament.

🔸 In his new statement, while condemning attacks by various countries on Iraq, he also condemned what he called “the rogue actions of militias to draw Iraq into an unnecessary war.”

🔸 Muqtada al-Sadr has also asked the Iraqi government to “establish security and assert the country’s sovereignty, and to seriously work to protect the health of the Iraqi people and the sanctities of this country, and not fall into the trap of hateful sectarian superstition.”
