Human Rights Organization HANA announced on Thursday, the second of Mehr, that Abdolrahman (Shirko) Abdullahi Pur, a member of this organization, was detained in Turkey and transferred to one of the facilities holding foreign nationals, in which he faces deportation.

The organization, pointing to Abdullahi Pur’s history of human rights activities, as well as threats and surveillance of HANA members and pressure on the families of some members and activists associated with the organization in Iran, warned that returning him to Iran could put him at risk of security detention, torture and mistreatment, judicial prosecution on security-related charges, and even the death penalty.

HANA said the danger of returning Abdullahi Pur to Iran has a “specific and individual” nature and cannot be considered solely as stemming from the general human rights situation in Iran.

The organization asked Turkish authorities to stop any action to deport Abdullahi Pur to Iran and, before any decision, to independently examine the risks arising from his human rights activities and the possible consequences of his return. HANA also called for guarantees of his immediate access to a lawyer and the ability to effectively use legal remedies to challenge the deportation decision.
