Hossein Samasami, a member of the Majles Economic Commission, told the Iran Watch website: “At present, the foreign currency for basic commodities becomes more expensive by one thousand tomans every day. In the next month, the economic situation of the country will become worse than it is now, because the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade has sent a letter to the Central Bank so that only a few items of goods are supplied using the 188,000 tomans exchange rate, and the rest of the goods are supplied at a rate close to the free-market rate.”
This member of parliament added: “This letter means that the price of more than 4,000 goods is intentionally being increased by 100,000 tomans, and in the next one or two months the prices of goods will rise sharply. As a result of this, the prices of goods and cars will increase by about 40–50%. While the foreign currency for 4,533 commodity lines has been eliminated, the same policies from the past year are being repeated.”
Samasami continued: “Policy-making in the government is based on raising prices, and the government has no plan or outlook for economic policies.”
