▪ Pete Hegset, the U.S. Secretary of Defense, on Sunday called Donald Trump’s recent remarks about the unusually widespread potential attack against the Islamic Republic a “fact.”

▪ Mr. Hegset on Monday, on the social media platform X, wrote “Fact,” with a reshared video of President Trump’s remarks.

▪ In this statement, the U.S. president says the attack that was supposed to be carried out and that he stopped in a statement on Saturday night “would have been the biggest attack since World War II” and would have had devastating consequences for the Islamic Republic.

▪ Mr. Trump made these remarks on Sunday in a conversation with reporters and added that negotiations with the Islamic Republic will begin on Monday.
