French health officials warned about the distribution of tens of thousands of non-standard condoms on the internet, in stores, and in pharmacies across the country, and asked consumers of these products to get tested for sexually transmitted infections.

According to the Politico news website, on Friday, 30 Mordad, France’s Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Counterfeit Control and the country’s Directorate General of Health announced that the use of these products could have serious consequences, including unintended pregnancy and contracting sexually transmitted infections.

Based on the report, tests carried out on condoms sold in pharmacies and stores indicated defects in two products. In one of them, there was a risk of “tearing,” and in the other, “holes” were observed.

Following the publication of the results of these tests, French authorities issued orders to withdraw about 260,000 defective condoms from the market in the months of May and August.

French officials recommended that users of these products get tested to detect sexually transmitted infections and, if their menstrual period is delayed, check for the possibility of pregnancy.
